I took Thomas on a Homestead holiday for his birthday last week. Here’s the recap of our one-night stay including a day at the spa.
Homestead Holiday
Happy 42nd birthday to Thomas! I planned a one-night getaway to The Homestead for his birthday last Thursday. The focus of our stay was the spas since Thomas loves saunas and water treatments. The Homestead Spa has men’s and women’s aqua thermal suites as well as outdoor heated pools.
I booked our room for free using my Venture X card‘s $300 a year travel credit + a few points. (Learn more on how this works here!)
Thanks to Eileen for watching Birchie for the night! We left Cville after school drop off on Thursday – it’s just under two hours away.
All decked out for the holidays! (This tree is real!)
The Homestead Spa
We beelined to the spa so we could maximize our time there. If you book a spa service, you get access for the day. You can also buy a day pass if you just want to use the pools.
Steam coming off the heated pool and hot tub –
After changing into robes, we met in the mineral bath which is fed by a natural hot spring. It was FREEZING outside with snow flurries and strong gusts of cold wind, but the water was body temperature! Getting out was so cold and we jumped in the hot tub before literally running to the sauna.

Happy bday!
Lunch in the Relaxation Room
After the sauna we went to the co-ed relax room for lunch. We got takeout pizza and a salad from Woody’s since the spa restaurant had a limited menu. Luckily they offered to bring us Woody’s.
Aqua Thermal Suite
After lunch we went to our own locker rooms to enjoy all the features. There is a warm “coccoon” room (108 degrees), a steam room, heated waterfall chairs, and experience showers. I enjoyed the steam room most of all because it was plenty hot! The showers were all a little too cold for me.
Facial + Massage
After lots of water activity, we met in the relax room again before our 3pm facial (me) and massage (Thomas). Those were both very good!
Post facial I took a shower and we got ready to head to our room.
Our Room
The Homestead generously gave us a room upgrade for the night! Our room was so spacious and pretty. We also got some champagne!
Jefferson’s Lounge
We decided to go to Jefferson’s Lounge for dinner which isn’t quite as fancy as some of the other places. But first we took some pics with the giant tree!
Old Fashioned
We shared kalamata olive bread to start, and I had the pan-fried trout for an entree. Thomas had shrimp fettuccini. Both were good decent dishes.
All the chocolate for the birthday boy!
We watched Elf in bed after dinner – the best!
Brunch
For breakfast the next day we went to the Audubon Dining room for their buffet. We filled up and called it brunch.
The last time we went to the Homestead was in the summer with the kids so now we’ve been there almost every season!
